Step 1: File for your green card renewal 90 days before your card expires. If you file any sooner your application will be rejected. If your card has already expired, you can file anytime but try and file as soon as possible.

You will apply for the renewal of your green card petition by filling and submitting the form I-90. You will also need to submit a copy of your expired or expiring green card. If you are filing because your green card is lost or stolen, you will have to submit additional documents like a copy of the police report along with your application.

 You will also need to pay the filing fees of $455 and maybe another $85 for biometrics.

Step 2: After you file your application you will wait for your receipt to come in the mail. You will then also get an appointment to go and get biometrics done.

Now you just have to wait for the USICS to process your application and send you a copy of your renewed green card. It can take anywhere between 1.5 months to 12 months until you get your new green card. You can track the status of your application online.
